Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease have a variable combination of chronic or recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms. The diseases fall into two main categories: Crohn's disease can include patchy transmural inflammation and granuloma formation anywhere throughout the GI tract. Ulcerative colitis is a diffuse mucosal inflammation and ulceration of the rectum. It can extend throughout the large bowel.
